Allston Housing Project

The focus of the class was on the of a new master plan for Allston. Once the master plan was
completed each student was given a plot to design his or her own building. I designed an apartment building with ground floor retail space. I focused my design on the tectonics of the facade. I studied new methods for placing bricks using Grasshopper. I was able to write a Grasshopper definition to take any curved surface and offset bricks along it. The final facade system was realized as a 6'x 8' panel that could be broken into smaller units, to fit within the window openings of the facade. The window openings extend to the edge of the property line while the brick bows in and out within the frames creating an interesting play with both texture and shadows.
